  1. Dubai, UAE, is candidate city to host the World Expo 2020, competing against other 4 cities. The winner will be announced in November 2013 following a vote by the 163 member nations of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). If Dubai succeeds in its bid, Expo will represent a strong boos to economy and create thousands of jobs.

The World Expo 2020 in Dubai would attract new opportunities not only for Dubai and the UAE, but across the region and the world, establishing new partnerships and creating a lasting experience for everyone who visits and participates, as reminded also by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

An economic impact study by Oxford Economics into Dubai Expo 2020 reports the total economic output across the Dubai economy would amount to 28.8 billion Euros, and would create over 277,000 jobs between 2013 and 2021. Importantly, for every Expo employee, approximately 50 additional jobs will be sustained across the Middle East and North African economy.

A World Expo in Dubai in 2020 would be the first to be held in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA region). As the global community faces ever more complex, and increasingly interconnected challenges, the links between people, societies and ideas have never been more important. Dubai Expo 2020 will be a platform for connectivity to help pioneer new partnerships for growth and sustainability for the future.

For UAE bid to host the 2020 World Expo in Dubai, the country has selected the theme

    Connecting Minds, Creating the Future

The most recent World Expo in Shanghai in 2010 was of great significance to China. As a showcase of what a modern city Shanghai had become, it was a considerable achievement on the soft diplomacy front for the Chinese as they gained international exposure and reached further out into the world.

Expo 2015 is the next scheduled Universal Exposition, and will be hosted by Milan under the theme Feeding the planet, energy for life.
